Toronto's noise rock band FRIGS have been rocking our sonic world big time for the past few weeks. So much so that we decided to put them on the cover of our SXSW 2018 issue of our sister mag The Deli, linked to the recent Austin Stompbox Exhibit. You can read the cover feature here. To complete the circle, we thought that a Q&A with the band's guitarist Duncan Hay Jennings about his guitar pedals was in order - you can find it on our sister blog Delicious Audio.

Once a year, The Deli publishes an issue of The Deli that is NOT exclusively focused on NYC acts, but on artists based in all the 11 scenes we cover. That time of the year is now, an that issue is the 8th Austin issue of The Deli, which you can now read online here. The print version of it, in its glorious 7 inch format, will be available in print next week in Austin and in NYC shortly thereafter.

On the mag's cover you'll find Toronto's noise rockers FRIGS, whose debut album Basic Behaviour has been rocking our world in the last few weeks.

The issue features other incredible emerging artists, including hip hop genius Nnamdi Ogbonnya, talented goofball popper Caroline Rose, and Los Angeles' alt-rockers The Beaches among others - you can listen to all of them in the YouTube playlist below.

Also in the issue, an article entitled "Will Rock Explode Again?" which poses pognant questions about the future of rock'n'roll.

As usual, in the final pages you'll find a section focused on the guitar pedals and synths involved in our Austin Stompbox and Synth Expo, scheduled for March 16/17 at the Chuggin' Monkey in Downtown Austin!

The Deli's Staff

This Toronto 4 piece band is getting ready to release their latest record “Basic Behaviour” this Friday February 23^rd. You can have an early listen to FRIGS' few tunes on their bandcamp page. The record opens with a wild track “Doghead” that might have you a little bit puzzled as to what the record is all about. It acts as a great hook though as the next track “Talking Pictures” settles into a dark alt-rock setting with some 80’s vibes to it. They have a calm yet frantic energy about them. These guys and gal will be heading through the States including a stop in Austin for SXSW in the next couple months. Their tour finishes up right here in Toronto at the Garrison on April 7^th. – Kris Gies
