After releasing their debut in 2015, Bully have earned a national audience with their raw garage punk sound. Their sophomore album Losing released just a few months ago on Sub Pop Records, and they're out on tour to support the record. Luckily for us in Nashville, they're playing Mercy Lounge for three days straight! While the Friday (Dec. 15) show with Daddy Issues and Butthole is sold out, you can still catch them Thursday (Dec. 14) with Adia Victoria and Western Medication, or on Saturday (Dec. 16) with Pujol and Sad Baxter. If you've been searching for a summer '15 soundtrack, look no further. Nashville-based alt-garage rockers Bully have turned their raw rock 'n' roll angst into a debut album that will punch you right through the speakers then let you cry on its flannel-clad shoulder.

True to their name, Bully seems pretty adept at delivering a suprise gut punch that leaves ya doubled over and stunned. They did that to the blogosphere last fall with their self-titled EP, and they're doing it again with this brand-new single "I Remember." Viciously cathartic, it is just under two minutes of Alicia Bognanno unloading painful little details of a past relationship amid gut-thumping bass and blown out guitar. Bully is about to give a good portion of the United States a round of sonic wedgies on their spring tour with JEFF the Brotherhood (full rundown of dates here.) Our Year End Poll for Emerging Nashville Artists was - as usual - a painstaking (and somewhat excruciating) process, but we pulled it off with remarkable flair!

Kudos to phenomenal punks Diarrhea Planet (pictured) for winning it, and to lo-fi riot grrrl Bully and mellow folksters Great Peacock for placing 2nd and third - we are very happy with this top 3, more gems are hidden in the list below, theough, check it out!

Here's how it all went down: first, we let the local bands submit their music (for free), and got our Deli editors to pick the nominees. Then we polled a list of 15+ Nashville scene expert (our jury, list at the bottom) and asked them to nominate 3 more bands of their choice each. Then we polled our writers, then we polled our readers. We tried to keep things open for each single genre, from Indie Rock to Roots Music to Hip Hop.

The Deli's Staff

Bully released their self-titled debut 7-inch vinyl EP on the 1st of October. It’s a fun four songs, heavy with guitar fuzz and crystalline vocals provided by Alicia Bognanno. This is what may have resulted if Kim Deal wandered into Pavement’s garage during a jam session. They’ve been busy around town, recently opening for Those Darlins at Mercy Lounge this past Friday. They’re making it all too easy to get sweaty palms around their virgin vinyl by offering it with every ticket purchased to their show this Friday, Oct. 11th at the Stone Fox with PUJOL and Study Hall. –Terra James-Jura
