A few weeks ago, fellow indie music blog No Country for New Nashville introduced us to Nashville's official ("official") basketball team. Though unrecognized by every official basketball association, Nashville's lack of a hoops crew leaves a gaping hole in the local sportsball circuit, allowing a perfect opportunity for the Nashville Pioneers to pick up the slack.

The team roster is stacked with a handful of local faces, from shop owners, to magazine masterminds, to musicians. Get to know your local hoopsters:

On November 16th and 17th, East Nashville Underground will once again take over The East Room, their staple venue over on Gallatin, to bring us a weekend full of rock and booze. Hosting one of their most solid lineups to date, the same ENU rules apply: lots of alcohol with the purchase of a wristband, all-you-can-eat hot dogs if you show up in a t-shirt from a previous season, and unlimited rock all weekend long, as seen in the lineup:

At a Daniel Ellsworth and the Great Lakes show, the only people in the room who may be having more fun than you are Daniel Ellsworth and the Great Lakes. The band took control of the High Watt stage on Friday night in a local music blowout, where they shared the stage with Umbrella Tree and SXSW Deli alums, Heypenny.

Utilizing their ability to fill the stage with energy and the room with sound, Daniel Ellsworth toggled his talents between the keys and the guitar while the band raised the bar for opening acts across the map. As one of the few openers worth showing up early for, the four-piece will reward your punctuality with a solid rock show, an audience-assisted clap/stomp-along during their standout jam "Shoe Fits," and a guaranteed appearance from resident Don Draper doppelganger/lead guitarist, Timon Lance.

Heypenny closed the show and led us straight into Saturday with their sweaty, dance-friendly set list. Making their first Nashville appearance as a power trio, Ben Elkins, DJ Murphy, and Aaron Distler proved that they can make new fans with every gig, and make their old fans sweat almost as hard as the band does. Heypenny's animated, high-energy live show is one of the best in Nashville, and DJ Murphy's bass face is unrivaled.

If you've yet to see either band, the split bill is worth a road trip to see them both play this Saturday in Chattanooga. —Brianne Turner

Known primarily for the creative charm of their music videos and the energy and sweat that emanates from their live shows, Heypenny have teamed up with Love Drunk to combine both of their most outstanding elements in a live performance music video of "You Shine," from their album A Jillion Kicks.

Representing Nashville in Hear Nebraska's scavenger hunt for the East Coast's best bands, the four piece dance, sing, and clap their way through the performance amongst a barrage of Chinese lanterns and exposed electrical wiring, proving that Heypenny can not only play a great show anywhere but that they can also create a charming aesthetic in even the oddest environment.
