Interview with Tristen
- by Jessica Pace
Last year, you played SXSW right around the release of Charlatans at the Garden Gate. How do you think this year's SXSW set will be different?
I'll be playing a lot of new songs. The set is almost completely new material, with a few oldies mixed in.
When did you first begin playing music?
My parents recall that I started singing as soon as I could speak at age two or so, and I began playing piano at the age of eight. Guitar came in when I was a teenager and right around when I started to write songs.
Last year was a successful one for you after the release of your record. What were the highlights for you?
Some highlights: shaking Joan Jett's hand, the deserts of New Mexico, touring with Justin Townes Earle, Steve Jones playing “Eager for your Love” on his radio show, our show at Bonnaroo.
Favorite venue you've played?
This spring, you'll be touring with another talented artist, Justin Townes Earle. How did that come about?
Justin Townes Earle, who lives in Nashville just like you and me, asked me to open for him in December in the northeast and I said yes. Yes...yes.
What are you working on now?
Singing, playing piano a lot lately, recording, touring. I just finished another record, Caves. I've been working on that since August.
