Mouth Reader

Mouth Reader's Fuzzy Psychedelia

Mouth Reader takes a hybrid approach to constructing their sonic niche. They harness the timbre of fuzz rock classics like Dinosaur Jr. to create massive sounding psychedelic power ballads reminiscent of slow-moving but powerful shoegaze bands like Slowdive. The percussion is big and reverby and the vocals are belligerent in their tone, making for a band that sits perfectly in the dive and basement venues of Nashville and Murfreesboro. Their work is tastefully lo-fi, with production developed enough to be accessible, but carrying the kind of DIY nature that makes you wish you had made the songs yourself. Be sure to catch their next show on June 6th at Ddrkmttr.

Mouth Reader at Phat Bites Deli 1.10

Garage stalwarts Mouth Reader just released this video for "Melt," that pays as much homage to hallucinogens as it does the sacred tradition of the liquid light show. The duo have been kicking up dust around the state after the November release of the 4-track EP by the same name, and have returned from a 6-show run through Texas, Louisiana and Georgia. They're letting Nashville know they're back with a show this Saturday at Phat Bites Deli with Ebony Eyes and Heinous Orca. Check out the show and see if there's any chance they have just one more of these gorgeous 7"s squirreled away. -Terra James-Jura

Mouth Reader Release Video "Inside You"

Mouth Reader had us at their first submission to the Deli, where they made it perfectly clear that they were at the front of the ranks in this garage rock revolution in Nashville. This fact was driven home with their win in our Artist of the Month Poll back in April. Hard, fast, and fuzzy, they hold down their corner of the DIY scene with furious tenacity while hustling the business side; they have a single on Culture Cringe Records compilation and a split with Private Lives on Semi-Pro Records, both to be released on Cassette Store Day on September 27th, and just put out this video for “Inside You” last week. It’s lo-fi to its core, but has everything you would want in a video: aliens, junkies, sparks flying off guitars and half-eaten babies. It contains all the attitude that 2 minutes of film can possibly fit, along with, and pardon us for fixating on details, one of the most pitch perfect yelps about a minute in. Keep up with the band here. -Terra James-Jura

Congratulations to Mouth Reader, Our New Artist of the Month!

Congratulations to Mouth Reader, our new Artist of the Month. They won through grit, determination, and good ol' fashioned Facebook bombing. Their next show is April 24th at The Boro Bar and Grill in Murfreesboro, so until then, rock out to their brand-spankin' new single, "Slave." -Terra James-Jura

Mouth Reader, "Inside You"

Mouth Reader released their self-titled EP January 16th of this year. Fast, fuzzy, and raw, they’re everything a garage band should be. The gnarly guitar tone and rapid-fire cymbal hits edge their sound towards surf rock. Kudos to the band for managing to get a sandy, salty crust on their songs despite Tennessee being about as landlocked as they come. The track, “Inside You” hits with the same swift and mesmerizing arc as the first brick hurled in a riot. The band is preparing for a mini-tour that goes nowhere near the ocean at the beginning of March; stay updated on their whereabouts here. –Terra James-Jura
