Wings of Apollo

Best of Nashville 2014 for Emerging Artists, FINAL RESULTS: 1. ELEL, 2. BASECAMP, 3. Wings of Apollo

Deli Nation,

Our Year End Poll for Emerging Nashville Artists was - as usual - a painstaking (and somewhat excruciating) process, but we pulled it off with remarkable flair!

Kudos to ELEL for winning The Deli NASHVILLE's Artist of the year! The new Mom + Pop signees are poised to release their debut EP into the world on March 3rd. The 8-piece supergroup dish out some big, world-flavored indie pop, and their live show can be classified as one of the happiest places on earth. If you haven't heard "40 Watt" yet, then for Chrissakes, here it is!

Electronic collaborators BASECAMP came in second. The trio have been building a following of their emotionally-charged, sparsely-produced music for the past few years. They recently have announced "Gradient" a live concert/dance series of all original music with local dance troupe Found Movement Group. More details and tickets are available HERE.

Wings of Apollo came in third in the overall vote in addition to sweeping our Reader's Choice Poll. The trio released their epic "By Force" EP earlier in 2014, and are channeling their heavy metal talents into a new album this year.

Here is how it all went down: first, we let the local bands submit their music (for free), and got our Deli editors to pick the nominees. Then we polled a list of Nashville scene experts (our jury is listed under the chart) and asked them to nominate 3 more bands of their choice each. Then we polled our writers, then we polled our readers. We tried to keep things open for each single genre, from Indie Rock to Roots Music to Hip Hop.

If you are a geek interested in all the subtleties related to how this poll works, you can read its rules here (happy reading!). But if all you care about is the awesome new music Nashville produced in the year 2014, this list is all you need. Enjoy!

Congratulations to Wings of Apollo for Winning Our Reader's Choice Poll!

Congratulations to Wings of Apollo for winning The Deli Nashville Reader's Choice poll! The trio rallied the vote early on, and the gap they created thanks to fans dedicated to their no-holds barred metal ultimately proved too wide to overtake. One thing is for sure: these boys can hustle, and ROCK. 2014 proved to be a hell of a year for the band; they released their epic "By Force" EP and won "Best Rock Band" in the Nashville Independent Music Awards, and tore up the stage over dozens of dates near and far, in addition to bassist Pat Graves holding a personal and highly entertaining "Flip a Day" challenge. Wings of Apollo are currently working on a full-length follow-up to "By Force," with a music video nearing its release date. Keep up with their antics and developments here and here.

Congratulations to Wings of Apollo for Winning NIMA's Best Rock Band Award

NIMA had its eighth-annual awards ceremony on August 24th at The Listening Room Cafe.  Wings of Apollo took home an award not only for "Best Rock Band," but also "Best Live Rock Performers." We wrote about the epic scope of their EP "By Force" earlier this summer, and we're thrilled that the trio has received some of the recognition they deserve, though we understand that WOA recieved this award only because there was no "RAWK" category. Wings of Apollo understand that making it as a band is a many-fronted campaign, involving not only patience and persistence, but also many, many more backflips than one would ever anticipate.  Catch them in all their headdressed, moustached and shirtless glory at The Rutledge on Friday, September 12th.  -Terra James-Jura

Wings of Apollo Release "By Force" EP

Do you have plans to absolutely dominate this Thursday?  Well, Wings of Apollo has your back.  The track "Maker" off their June 10th release "By Force" will help you sail through the day barechested and astride an armored unicorn, the force of rock manifesting itself as lightning bolts shooting from the tips of your fingers. If this track doesn't quite get you to that level of awesome, check out the rest of the EP here (wah-heavy track 4, "The Wind" is a personal favorite.)  Produced by 4-time grammy award winner Malcolm Springer, its an immaculate dose of modern-day hair metal.  At the very least, knowing that these three guys are out there thrashing with unapologetic conviction ought to make those TPS reports go down a little easier.  Or just make you really jealous. -Terra James-Jura
