Lily Frost - Retro Single "I Dodged a Bullet", Rivoli Release Party 06.01

Retro singer/songwriter Lily Frost has released the lead single from her upcoming album “Retro Moderne”. Produced by Gus Van Go (The Stills, Terra Lightfoot, among others) this first track “I Dodged A Bullet” aligns well with the “Retro Moderne” idea. It has a great 60’s doo wop feel to it but also could be a from an old action movie soundtrack. The new album will be available June 1st at The Rivoli for the record release party. – Kris Gies

Jen Starsinic plays The Cobra on 05.20 with touring artists

Local indie rock artist Jen Starsinic will perform at The Cobra on May 20th, as part of a bill with visiting artists. Starsinic has played around the city over the last few years, evolving her sound from a sparse indie folk to a more full-band oriented alternative rock. Catch her performing alongside Texas troubadour Hill Country Devil, Detroit-based roots rocker Libby DeCamp, and local butcher and musician The Singing Butcher. Starsinic will perform eletric arrangements of her tracks; take a listen to "It's A Foreign Thing", from her 2014 LP The Flood And The Fire, below. - Will Sisskind

New Track: "Breathe Out" - Curtis Cooper

Philly's own Curtis Cooper has a new album coming out on June 3, titled Graceful, and you can now listen to its lead single, "Breathe Out," below. The song lyrically depicts how tension and anxiety tend to build and weigh us down. That compounding effect is countered by the bright, jangly guitar and percussive patterns. Then, the warm, vocal harmony relieves in an airy, uplifting manner as the recording opens up. That ability to create complex, vivid imagery and sound, while retaining a personal connection easily grabs one's attention and makes Cooper's next release something to look forward to.

Le Butcherettes and L7 Bring Feminine Power to Mohawk

As ritual chants broke over the crowd's heads, a throng of people were mesmerized by the presence of the incendiary individuals on stage. Le Butcherettes, lead by Teri Gender Bender, start to play and people begin to fidget with anxiety in anticipation of dancing. Careless poetic verses float through the audience as the band exemplifies their true expression through body movements, equally magnetizing as hypnotic. Many fans waved their phones in the air for instagram stories and social media photos while many others stood stupified by their brilliance.

L7 didn't let up the torrent of force as they purveyed aggressive riffs that demanded movement and headbanging from listeners. People from the Austin music scene blended with white-collar dads in a pseudo-moshpit which served as a testament to the strength of the relatability of L7's music. Nostalgia and blissful enjoyment spread around the venue like a virus, giving a sense of enjoyment and well-being to everyone present.
