Human BBQ XXXVIII at Pilam April 9

Get up, and grub down for the 38th annual Human BBQ at Pilam. The all-day affair showcases a roll call of talented bands (17 in all); the majority of which are sprung from local soil. Among those are the psych-pop of Grubby Little Hands, whose new album Garden Party is set for release on April 29 via Lefse Records. The coasting, casual wave of Blue Smiley amplifies in intensity, pushing its loose air into a turbulent state. The melting point of electro-hip hop and ambient noise with Moor Mother Goddess brings a broad spectrum of sound together. Emotively sprinkled, reserved and then raucous sounds Bone Bats and the somber, twisted, rockin' melodies of Cold Foamers juxtapose the 0 to 100 grind thrash of +HIRS+. The subtle, lilting, experimental textures of Japanese Breakfast help to round out this festive day into form. Pilam, (Please contact one of the acts or venue for more info.), 12pm, $15, All Ages - Michael Colavita

Calisse, Hollow Sidewalks and Night Beats tonight at Dante's

It's one of the first truly beautiful days of the season, so tonight is guaranteed to be optimal in weather and in fun times. Dante's will be hosting Seattle's Night Beats, Hollow Sidewalks and Câlisse in what is sure to be a lively set of performances. The Night Beats have gone through the usual trials and tribulations you see in most bands - disagreements, breakups, makeups, but tonight they'll be sharing the stage with a pair of incredibly talented Portland acts. Deli favorites Hollow Sidewalks have previously been featured in perfectly "fitting the bill" as an opener for Ringo Deathstarr, and the same can be said for their inclusion in the show tonight. Nora Muphy Hughes' comforting croon is but one of the appealing draws to Hollow Sidewalks; their increibly relatable songs and perfected instrumentation being some of the others.

Câlisse is set to begin the night with their classic call to garagey pop rock. They just released a new video for their single "Stay" last month, coming off their upcoming album Farewell, Blacksheep, due out on the 15th. A song of longing, "Stay" calls to anyone who has ever desired deep connection with another.

Tickets for tonight's show are $10, with music beginning at 9pm.

Hamilton has had some really good garage bands come through there in recent years but one that has sort of slid past my radar is Billy Moon. This guy has some really nice garage pop-rock goin on...really catchy melodies with fuzzed out guitars...it's a perfect combo. They're most recent release is an EP called "Young Adult". These fellas are worth listening to for sure. Have a listen to "Young Girls" to get a feel of what Billy Moon is all about. Then go see the band LIVE at the Horseshoe Tavern this Saturday Night. - Kris Gies

New Track: "Inkwell" - Howlish

Howlish slithers into your earhole with its new single "Inkwell". A sinister guitar provides forshadowing before achy vocals reveal the mystery. What will be the reveal?
