Ana Everling "Ecoul (The Echo)"

Moldova born, Chicago-based Jazz Vocalist Ana Everling has been using the quarantine as an opportunity to go back to her childhood and record aseries of Moldovan children songs. These are home recordings that Ana has done perhaps for her own comfort, but also to bring comfort to those who listen. The latest song, the fifth she has released, is called "Ecoul (The Echo)", and was written by Ion Macovei and Grigore Vieru. The song is forty seconds of beautiful call and response, and hopefully bring a smile to any listener this morning.

You can hopefully catch Ana Everling at Jazz Showcase (806 S. Plymouth Ct.) on May 26th.

Bottomed "We Sit in Silence as Our World Decays"

Bottomed has released a new experimental ambient piece called "We Sit in Silence as Our World Decays". This is clearly a creation of isolation we all find ourselves in, and Bottomed has found a touch of beauty in that maddness.

This is a solo project of Nicholas Dellacroce of the instrumental doom metal group Bongriper. He did have some help on the creation of the underlying loop of this track from his quarantine partner Caroline Krol.

M. Sage "Blessing Redux (vivo relief)"

M. Sage has release a collection of reworkings of pieces from his 2019 album Catch A Blessing. "Blessing Redux (vivo relief)" is an attempt to celebrate the album's anniversary and offer a little moment of peace and relief to our city in this time of crisis. All money raised by the sale of this album will be donated to the Chicago Covid-19 Response Fund, but the quiet beauty of Matthew's music may also bring some comfort to the listener.

Concrete Graves "Shards Of Light"

Artist Arturo Fresán has put a much needed project into the world today called "Shards of Light". On the surface this ambient music built upon field recordings that include the following; CTA announcer, "L" train, Boing 737, O'Hare Airport, Col. Letran-Valle Knife sharpener, Benito Juarez Airport, Petco, Brewing Process, Street Preacher, 4th of July Fireworks, Freight Train, Metra Train, and a Dollar Tree Cashier.

However, when exploring this album through the lens of shelter-in-place it becomes a meditative look back a what day to day life was like a month ago. It is a slowly shifting dream of what once may have been mundane, but now is a highly anticipated return to normalcy.
