Album Premiere: WEEED - You Are The Sky

WEEED is releasing their 6th LP You Are The Sky and The Deli is lucky enough to be the ones to share it with you. While the album is definitely true to the psych-rock heart of the band, its krautrock and occult influences are what really pull you in. Listening to the album in its entirety is akin to walking a path full of twists and turns. One moment you’re peacefully hanging out in a sun-bathed field. The next you’re dancing your hardest in the middle of a hot, sweaty crowd. Above all else, no matter where the band takes you, you’re definitely stoned. It’s incredibly satisfying how WEEED can bring you into that mindset, even if you aren’t actually on any substances. It's fair to say smoking a bowl while playing You Are The Sky is equivalent to eating cheese with wine. So do with that what you will.

WEEED is playing their release show tonight at Mississippi Studios. Dreamdecay and Sea Moss will also be playing sets. You can find out more info here

Faiyaz & the Wasted Chances - "Another Crooked Line" single, Horseshoe 03.15

Toronto 3 piece garage rockers Faiyaz and the Wasted Chances have just released a brand new single. “Another Crooked Line” kicks off with the fuzz cranked right up but the verse follows with a dreamy pop feel. It all comes together for the big singalong chorus where they mention more wasted chances…so perhaps it’s not just a clever band name. They live the gimmick! So make sure to see these fellas live at the Horseshoe Tavern on March 15th with The Weather Wild, The Yonge Collective, The Celebration Army and Sophie & the Gentles. – Kris Gies

B-17 - Garage Space Rock flyin' to the Horseshoe 03.14

B-17 are a psychedelic garage rock band that’s bringing back that sloppy MC-5 type sound. The guitars are fuzzy and heavy while the drums thump and the vocals drone. Influenced by vintage garage rock like the Stooges but also the heavy space rock like Hawkwind, their latest record “Goodbye” will have you rockin’ out while flying through space. You can witness it all live on March 14th at The Monarch Tavern with The High Dials (Montreal) and Lacquer. – Kris Gies

Industrial psych-rockers GHXST share digital album "Gloom," play SXSW on 3/13

Brooklyn electronic psych rock duo GHXST dropped their latest digital album “Gloom” at the end of 2018. After playing a select number of hand picked shows around the release date, they are now preparing to showcase the new material at this years SXSW music festival. Lead track “Hunger” immediately establishes a dark, slow-burn foreboding that places emphasis on deep-end howling guitars, many of them sampled. Dreamy female vocals come adorned with a level of unsettling doom that would surely please David Lynch and his fans. Additional tracks like “Ocean is a Desert” and “Vaquero” continue that vibe while adding eery electronic elements reminiscent of Swiss industrial guitar-rock pioneers The Young Gods. “Bad Blood II” introduces a pulsating electronic synth progression, while “Ride” digs down into a bass-tone heavy groove that A Place To Bury Strangers frequently resides. Final track “Heatwaves” incorporates bended slide-guitar along with its apprehensive vocal delivery, dark ambience and snaking progression. GHXST will be performin at an official SXSW showcase on 3/13 at BD Riley's. - Dave Cromwell
