Max and the Wild Things have released a video for their new song, Wind Through the Window.
Alt-alt-country blues infused rock band, Max and the Wild Things, formed in Nashville in 2009. The band takes you on a Deloreanride through genres with rootsy finger-picked guitar and banjo, punk bass lines, an eclectic barrage of drum beats, and uke madness.
Last year Max and the Wild Things released their self-titled debut album. The album has received praise from the blogosphere on both sides of the Atlantic and many spins on college radio stations. Recorded onto 2 inch tape at Welcome to 1979 studio, the retro sound serves the collection of 'deceptively catchy songs'.
The follow up record, Neptune's Crown, is in the can. Wind Through the Window, the album's first single, has been unleashed and shows musical growth from the bands punk-country roots yet still captures the raw train off the tracks feel of the band's previous work. Neptune's Crown lands 2012.
J. Thoven's debut EP âOn the Road,â tells the soulful, lyrical tales of a grizzly drifter, disillusioned and off track, searching to find true meaning in his life. The spinner of J. Thoven's tales is Jake Pappas, former front man of Orange County folk rock band Janu and the Whalesharks. When the group parted ways, Jake found himself searching for a new beginning, and was ultimately drawn away from the palm trees and surf of California and heading towards Nashville, Tennessee, where he discovered J. Thoven among the ever-changing seasons and personalities that Music City brings to life.
âI wanted to experience all 4 seasons,â explains Jake. âI wanted to write about the snow, and the greenest trees you'll ever see. I wanted to experience solitude and new faces. Thus I moved, and I spent the first 6 months writing, and not even thinking about performing until I had new material. Nashville material.â
In January of 2011, Jake was compelled to share the traveler's legends wherever he could, and started as a one-man ensemble, with nothing but a kick drum, a guitar and his own voice to aid him.
âAfter months of practicing, I was confident people would like it; at least for it's freshness. I moved with the intention to stand out... I moved to start a new project, one that would blossom into a full band. But I knew I had to start it aloneâ¦â
After his first show, with no one on stage but himself, Jake could feel the momentum picking back up again. Encouraged by the interest crowds were showing in J. Thovenâs story, he made his way back to his home roots in Orange County and recorded his first official release under the travelerâs name.
âThe album is somewhat of a concept album,â says Jake, ânot intentionally, but the story of how they all play out fits as a sort of life journey.â
From the introspective âA Wash It Won't Make It Clean,â to the energetic trek of title track âOn the Road,â J. Thoven cuts through the winding roads of making mistakes and feeling lost in the crowd. The melodic first single off the EP, âCity Maze,â expresses that standstill moment within the chaos of bustling streets.
â'I got lost in the city maze, too much talking, no listening, loved the wrong things deliberately, I'll sell my old ways, to the fire ring'...There's a lot of confession in this songâ Jake says, âHe's self absorbed and ignoring what he knows is rightâ¦it's that moment where people try to figure things out on their own.â
Eventually, Jake says, the project will grow as J. Thoven stumbles on to more musicians to tell his story. For now, former Janu members have pitched in to fill in the gaps on the EP set to be released at the end of 2011.
Young Hines has been diligently working with producer Brendan Benson on his first LP. The two recorded at Welcome to 1979 Studios, and the new record is expected out early 2012. Young will be opening for the sold out Raconteurs' show November 13th in Atlanta, Ga @ The Tabernacle.
He is also the first artist on Brendan's new label, Readymade records. Keep up to date with what's going on, as more exciting news is to come!

Diamond Day Records is very proud to announce the release of The Steepwater Band's 5th full length studio album. CLAVA, was recorded this past March on the South Side of Chicago at the studio of the same name. (Nashville, TN, September 2011) - Songwriter, Andrew Adkins is no stranger to trouble. He spent the past decade as part of the psychedelic/roots-rock band, Mellow Down Easy. "Nearly ten years on the road in a band like Mellow Down Easy can either kill you or really enlighten you," says Adkins. "We all waded through our share of demons, heartbreak, turmoil, good and bad times. Thankfully we were able to come out on the other side and be able to use those experiences to grow as artists and as individuals." MDE's unbridled road life did not stop Andrew and his band mates from encompassing a cult fan-base as well as garnering their share of acclaim. The band's last album, 2009's 'Cosmisutra' (Dualtone) was hailed as "the most original style in the last decade" and a "breath of fresh air" by critics from Outlaw Magazine, No Depression, Vintage Guitar, Rolling Stone and various other publications from around the World. After nearly a decade together Andrew suggested that the band go on an indefinite hiatus. "I decided it was time to try something else. I needed to break away and express myself in another way."
Adkins will release his first ever solo album, 'Troublesome, My Love' on September 6, 2011. "These are my songs, my heart and soul and my stories," explains Andrew. "This is the most personal music I have ever made in my life!" The album's first single, "A Little Bit of Mercy" is a sonically pleasing, uplifting, tour de soul. Look for the single to drop on the radio and internet in late July. Andrew is planning a string of solo, acoustic shows starting this Fall in support of 'Troublesome, My Love'. "I am really stoked to share this music with everyone," Adkins says. "This is the album I have always wanted to make."
